Project Pop Renewal Pt 1
As with everything else in my life lately, I have neglected my Pops displayed while also shoving the individual Pops around (plus a few fell over all on their own) and generally making a mess of things in recent months. It’s past time to get things back into some sort of order. I want to redo each of my displays (I have my Pops grouped into themed displays much like I do on this blog) and take new photos of everything for this blog. I plan to do far more than just reorganize the Pops themselves; I have plans to add some new shelves as my current shelves have run out of room, cover some of the display backdrops with cloth, and build new risers among other things. Oh, and I need to do a LOT of dusting! See the photos below for a taste of what I have to work with and what there is to do.
As you can see, I have some unfinished risers I need to, well, finish and probably even build a few more new risers. (I may detail how I build my risers in the next entry since the old blog entry where I wrote about that has been lost.) I use empty Pop boxes behind my displays 1. to keep the Pops from falling backwards to who knows where and 2. to have a place to put my empty Pop boxes. They don’t look too good like that though. My original thought was to cover them with the same thin white cloth that I cover my risers with. My dad came up with an even better idea of covering them with thick, foam headliner material so that’s what I’m planning on doing now. The headliner material should be easier to work with and the darker colors should make for better backdrops, I think. I’ll know more once I go later this week and have a look at what extra material he has and how much of it he has for me to work with. I need to measure everything now to see approximately how much I’ll need.
I also noticed that I’ve completely run out of room for all of my Marvel Pops. Here’s an older photo to the right of all my Marvel Pops on their current three shelves. As you can see, no room for new ones which are on their way or already here. So, I’ve ordered two new shelves to fit in that empty space on the right (a 16″ shelf to go next to the middle shelf and a 24″ shelf to go next to the top shelf). I actually ordered new shelves last week but stupid me only measured length and not depth. I got shelves that were less than 4″ deep when I needed them to be at least 7″ deep in order to put risers on them so I could have at least two to three rows of Pops on each shelf. I would like to lower that white shelf too (so the Pops on top of the riser aren’t so close to the bottom of the middle shelf) but I’m not sure if I’m going to do that or not. I’ll have to take all of the Pops off that shelf anyway to put up the new shelves so I might as well lower it while they’re off there… Maybe I could raise the top shelf too to give more room on the middle shelf for a third row of risers as well since that shelf is the same depth as the top shelf so they should fit… We shall see.
Speaking of those four shelves I purchased last week that are not the right size for what I wanted for my Marvel Pops; I haven’t decided yet whether to keep the shelves and use them elsewhere or return them. I could put them to use for my Star Wars Pops as I am running out of room for those. Or I could just build a larger riser on top of my bookcase for the Star Wars Pops. I don’t know yet. I’ve got a little while to decide. I bought them from Amazon so I have a little less than 30 days now to make up my mind. I also have that freakin’ huge 10″ Mandalorian Pop and no idea where to put him yet. He wouldn’t fit on any of those shelves but I still need to figure out somewhere to put him where he won’t fall or take up too much space from other Pops.
Now that I have a plan in mind of what I need to do, I just have to get my shit together and do it. I’ll need to take stock of what materials I currently have (stuff to make risers with to see if I have enough or need to order more) and what I will need to get this project completely done. I also need to make some progress on my Project Spring Clean in my office before I can do too much or some of it will be a wasted effort. Now to get to it!
