Getting Things Done
Although I haven’t been depressed, just really busy, I let things go again in my rooms. Remember Project Spring Clean? Things weren’t anywhere near as bad as they were back then but still, my rooms were a mess again and needed some serious cleaning. Again. So, back on the fifth or fourth of this month, I began my work cleaning up and overhauling my rooms completely. Not going to turn it into a project this time, just going to do it. I’ve written myself a To Do List that’s a few pages long and have already scratched off quite a large number of things that I have so far accomplished. Still loads more to do though!
It didn’t take too long to get my office all cleaned up, just a couple hours. After that, I scrubbed clean my glass desk then completely reorganized it. I got the idea to move my monitor over so I could move my mouse over as well. Now my arm can rest on the long side of my L-shaped desk instead of hanging in the air. Maybe this will help prevent more nerve damage? Or cause more? I guess I’ll find out. I do need to get an elbow pad or something though. I also cleaned up behind my computer by unplugging all the cables, untangling them, figuring out what cable went to what, labeling each cable, then plugging them back in in a way that made slightly more sense. Cable management has never been my forte, but I thought I’d give it another try. I found four cables back there that I didn’t even need! I’m not sure why two of them were even there in the first place! I also replaced the ancient surge protector I had been using for (literally) 15 years with a new one from Amazon that offers three times as much protection from surges and has more outlets plus is actually fire resistant.
Since I finished that, I’ve been going through all the storage drawer chests in my office and clearing them out then reorganizing what I decide to leave in them. One wooden chest is apparently in its final days (it’s a cheap fiberboard piece I bought from Target 20 years ago for $30 so I’d say I’ve gotten my money’s worth). I cleaned it out completely and bought a smaller plastic storage chest of drawers (with rollers!) to replace it. Thankfully, my brother came up here to help me carry it out of here so now I have loads more space. I’m also rearranging some of the furniture in this room. Why? To make room for a new piece of furniture, a TV stand for my new office TV!! It’s an early Xmas present from my mom and it got here only a couple days ago. The stand isn’t here yet though, dammit. With that chest out of the way and if I’m not as horrible with dimensions as I probably am, I might be able to fit another shelf for Pops on my wall once I get the TV stand setup under my other Marvel shelves. I also just realized that I only need one of my small bookshelves. I’m not yet sure what to do with the other one that I don’t need. I’ll figure something out.
It took a little bit longer to get my bedroom cleaned up and then vacuumed than it did my office. I rearranged a thing or two in there as well, just for the hell of it. I still have a bit more cleaning to do in there. While getting the floor cleared so I could vacuum, I piled a few things on top of my dresser and chest of drawers, now I have to clear/clean those things off. I also have another framed poster to hang up in there when I get a chance. Oh, I still need to scrub the coffee drips off of my desk in there. That cheap white finished fiberboard desk isn’t as easy to clean as my glass desk but still it isn’t exactly hard to clean either. It shouldn’t take long.
A week or so ago, I accidentally cracked open the case on my old computer in the other room which needed a new case and some replacement fans anyway. The new case I purchased during a Cyber Week sale at Newegg, it arrived the same time as the TV. Today, I went about the painstaking task of transferring the motherboard, PSU, and all other hardware from the broken case to the new case. Surprisingly, I managed not to break anything during the transfer, and nothing exploded when I started the computer up! Also, it booted up without any errors! I ran into only one issue; my old motherboard does not have a connector for the case’s front panel USB 3 port. I’ll either have to just never use that port or buy a PCI card with an add-on internal USB 3 port so I can plug the thing in it. The cards are right under $20 but I’m still just thinking about it, no decision yet.
I’ve got my bathroom all cleaned up too. I finally completely cleaned out the cabinets under the sink and then put back only the non-outdated and “stuff I actually need” back in plus freshly washed towels. All that’s left to do in there is scrub the sink, get my makeup sorted into that makeup organizer I bought two years ago, and find something to do to the wooden cabinets as they look awful; there must be some way to still save them as they are made of actual wood. I bet Mom has something for them or knows what to do.
That’s all for now. I have a lot more to get done before I’m finished! I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
